Sensitive Skin Care Tips

It doesn’t take a genius to notice that everyone’s skin is a little different. Not better or worse; just different in a large variety of ways. Some have thicker skin, some have thinner. Certain skin is oily and others are as dry as a desert. And not to mention the uncountable number of hues that also exist.

So, since each skin is different naturally there are different ways of taking care of it. In our previous posts, we spoke about taking care of skin through external conditions, such as skin care in the spring and in summer, or the skin care tips in New York. But there are some factors that come from your skin itself, like the aforementioned.

And one of those factors happens to dictate quite a lot in your skin care process, that being sensitivity. If you don’t consider the sensitivity your skin when taking care of it, you may not find the results you’ve desired and perhaps; no effect at all.

Which is why there are certain tips and tricks to help you take better care of your sensitive skin and make the most of your treatments.

Keep it simple

It’s easy to get caught up in all the complicated skin care products, with all those ingredients you don’t know how to pronounce. At first, it may seem like the more complicated something is, the more effective it will be.

Sensitive skin or not, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Each person has their own set of products that are effective or ineffective. The problem is, with all those weird ingredients and chemicals in certain products, sensitive skin could actually be damaged.

Which is why you should always test, then use; meaning try to find what works and only then use it.

But especially for sensitive skin, keeping everything simple and understandable is the best way to go. You want to know what’s in your skin care products and make sure that it isn’t too complicated. Know what’s best for your skin specifically and make sure you don’t overcomplicate your skin care procedures.

Nice and Cool

Nothing against really thick skin, but it can get really hot in it. And hot skin isn’t always advantageous. Because of all the sweat and oils we sucrete, skin can get clogged up with a whole bunch of dirt and gunk we don’t really want.

A good way of fighting this is by keeping the skin cool and moist. We already know how moisture in the skin not only makes it supple, but also keeps it fresh and tough. But keeping the skin cool has its own great results.

Coolness allows your skin to breathe better, thereby keeping it healthier. In fact, it’s highly recommended to wash your skin with cold or at least lukewarm water.

Additionally, to avoid extra dirt from outside sources, if you have sensitive skin, do your best to avoid big city air. Also, try not staying under the strong summer sun for too long. A lot of heat can really pack a punch, especially for those with more sensitive skin.

Let it breath

Especially in recent years, this has most definitely been taken for granted. We often forget how important it can be for our skin to breathe. For skin to remain strong and healthy, for the cells to stay fresh, you have to keep your skin moisturized and also breathing some air.

Putting on make-up may have become such a major part of your life that you sometimes forget that it acts as a second layer to your skin; a second layer that keeps it from breathing, from staying fresh and from coming into contact with the air it requires so much.

But how does skin breathe exactly? Well you have pores in your skin; tiny holes which let air pass through them. When you put on make-up or if you live in a big city with lots of gunk in the air, they can easily get filled up with a whole bunch of stuff, keeping your skin from breathing properly. And especially for sensitive skin, this can be a major problem.

So remember to regularly clean and cleanse your skin through various means, like masks or special moisturizers or even just a good plain-old wash up. There is no better way of taking care of skin then going back to these basics.

Eating and all the other good stuff

You may be surprised to know the effect that your diet has on your skin. In fact, you’d be surprised to know about all the effects that your diet has on your body and mind. In terms of effects on sensitive skin, the right habit can make a vast difference in your skin’s endurance.

Eating more organic food isn’t just about showing off to your friends. It does have many positive effects on the sensitivity of your skin. Eating a whole bunch of junk with a whole bunch of toxins in it can negatively impact your skin and make it even more sensitive. So, just keep your skin properly nourished by paying attention to your dietary intake. It’s just another reason to eat healthy.

And the other stuff

Other stuff includes, but is not limited to, avoiding the Sun, especially in the summer. Avoiding dirty city air and especially cigarette smoke, which I really don’t need to elaborate why it’s bad for you.

And just in general pay more attention to your skin care. Just because you have more sensitive skin, does not in any way mean that you in any way limited when compared to people with more durable and tougher skin. It’s not like your skin is just going to melt off. You just need to be more wary of what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. But this can apply to literally anyone.

So just be on the lookout for what you can do to make that skin a little tougher.
