Cleaning Up the Scary

Cleaning Up the Scary

Oh hey, it’s that wonderful time of the year again. No, not the winter holidays. No, not Thanksgiving. Yes, Halloween, the spookiest holiday of the year. In fact, the only spooky holiday of the year, if you don’t count family reunions, but they’re not holidays.

As we speak, you’re probably getting your costume and makeup ready, getting a bucket to trick-or-treat with, even though you’re probably a grown person, but who doesn’t like candy, am I right? And speaking of costumes, this is the holiday where your looks matter most. Yeah, you probably have a wide range of holiday sweaters that you hate but have to wear for the family. But when it comes to creativity in the way you look and dress, Halloween is probably the one holiday that pays the most attention to these kinds of things.

And whether you’re going to a party, trick-or-treating, or just some simple event at work, you’re probably going to wear a costume. If you don’t have the time to find the Yellow M&M costume, or a Mike Myers mask, the next easiest thing to do is to just put on a ton of make-up and go out, scaring the children more than you do on any normal day.

So now you’ve put on your makeup, you look like you could play for Kiss, and you have to stay this was throughout the whole day. Imagine the torture your skin must endure just so that you can win the “Best Costume” award at work.

But one way or another, I’m sure you probably feel bad for your skin and do want it to return to its normal, supple state, after all that make up. But what’s a proper way of taking care of your skin after all that makeup?

Stage 1: Removal

Yeah, so with all the make up, the fake blood, and even the skin glue you may have used for your costume are probably not going to go away as easily. And considering that you probably have plans to do something after Halloween, you surely don’t want to have your skull face on when you go somewhere (unless that’s the kind of thing you’re into, but I don’t know).

You probably want to get rid of your Halloween face as soon as possible once the celebrations are over. This may seem obvious, but some people really don’t know that they should actually use make up removers to do this. Now, I can’t recommend which brand to use, since you probably have one that you trust, but I can recommend that you use one that’s very potent.

Can you imagine what your skin has been through after one or even more than one day of all that makeup and paint? Your pores are probably full of so much make up, they’re probably choking with no air. Which is why using a good remover is very important, to make sure that they are cleaned out completely, and return to their healthy state as before.

Make sure that you clean every nook and cranny of your face to get rid of all the makeup. Cleaning the glue, however, is the most important, since you don’t want to leave it hardened on your face. Try using very potent cleansers, which can efficiently wipe off all the residual glue off your face before you do anything else.

Stage 2: Softening

With all the special make up and the different glues and paints you used to make you Halloween costume, you can expect that your skin has probably gotten much rougher than before. You try being under layers of makeup for several days and see if you don’t come out tough as old boots. And this is an unavoidable problem with Halloween make up, especially in the area of the face.

But regardless of what your costume might be, you probably don’t want your face to look like the monster’s face you were dressed as. And even if you might, you surely don’t want you skin to feel like a monster’s (or maybe you do, who knows). But in general cases, most people don’t want flaky and rough skin.

In order to get rid of this problem, you need to make sure to take care of your skin and keep it moist for several days. Use moisturizing creams to make the skin softer, however, for the areas where you used glue, make sure to wipe them with the right kinds of oils, to break down the flaky and tough skin, so you can then proceed with the moisturizer.

Stage 3: Cleansing

Simply removing the make up is not enough to regain the softness of your skin. You have to put a little more effort into it. After Halloween is over, you’ve eaten all the candy and you don’t need to scare people anymore, use masks to refresh your face.

The masks will clean out the rest of the make up, paint and glue leftover from Halloween, as well as return your skin to its suppleness. After a few exfoliating masks, you can be sure that your face will be back to normal and you will look just like you did before Halloween. But will you be the same person on the inside? (No just kidding, you probably will.)

Hunt for Candy Confidently

So now that you know how to properly take care of your skin after days of sticky makeup, and uncomfortable costumes, you can confidently go out and celebrate Halloween, knowing that you’re not going to have any problems removing the Halloween from your face. Following these steps, you will regain your skin’s vibrancy in no time and can return to work not looking like a skeleton, or vampire, or Gene Simmons (unless you want to).

With this in mind, go out there, scare some children, which is always fun, and get as much candy as you can, if you still trick-or-treat at this age. I do, and I have absolutely feel no shame about taking candy that was meant for children.
